Still remember where I was when I saw the MTV News report.
I was in my dorm room at Morehead State, getting ready to go out to a haunted trail with some friends. I ended up just sitting on my bed for about 30 minutes or so before finally moving again.

On this day in 1997, three weeks after Bill Berry broke the news of his decision to retire from music to his closest friends, MTV were informed and duly dispatched a camera crew to R.E.M. HQ, where the rest of the band join the drummer for their last television interview as an active foursome.
