🚨 Watch out for these fallacies in the debate over the Dept. of Ed!

1️⃣ Overgeneralization – “Schools are failing, so the DoE is useless.” Education is complex—many factors are at play.

2️⃣ False Causality – “If we shut it down, student performance will improve.” Correlation ≠ causation.

I’ve been hearing a lot of talk from students lately of the efficacy of mid-terms and finals as to how we learn. Does it help?

I gave up on them a few years ago and think they do not help learning but perhaps it depends on the subject matter. What do you think?

Teaching about AI bias this week, like data, algorithmic and confirmation bias to name a few.

AI bias isn’t just a technical issue; it’s a societal one.

Who’s in power and who reports it can affect this when disinformation is spread.

Vaccines, RFK JR and HHS, for instance, is a concern.

Just did individual breakout rooms for my small class on the Future of Business. I spent a few minutes with everyone going over their final project to make sure they were on track. Best time spent this quarter.

Nothing quite says "efficiency" like hiring co-directors to lead your department of efficiency.

Having fun with discussing psychological effects and marketing tonight in my marketing strategy class tonight.

Hick’s Law which points to decision fatigue happens often in the real world. Sometimes we need to give people less choice so they can make a decision.

When I hear folks bemoan that AI will take their job I think about how history and maybe fortune favors the bold.

When we see something like that coming and choose not to get ahead of it? That not where I want to be.
