This type of socks aren't widely present in art. The original ones are cotton, some finer than others, but the fine cotton ones would have been protective more towards the sun and dirt than coldness.

I don't think mine will bloom this winter. I re-potted it in early fall and it seems to have taken offence of it.

Beautifull work! Congratulations on finishing them!
I decided on easy start on the field; baby/toddler socks with 8s & 13r/1" (and didn't quite match that either), and much simpler pattern.

In history of nalbinding this stitch has been used for minimum 8500 years... If it was good enough to our ancestors, shouldn't it be good enough for us too? This is one of the last simple looping features on North Atlantic tradition.

My pleasure! @sigkit.bsky.social 's blog is great source for all nalbinding-y stuff, including the odd local traditions.

This is a form of nalbinding, simple looping to be exact.

Most of the time I feel that my research is so obvious, because it often is so obvious to me, but when I talk about my research with non-looped textiles focused people it suprises me every time how alien many very obvious things are to most.

Alright! For that ease I would probably go for evenly spaced decreases and increases on the sides and shift in size before bust and if needed after bust.

What kind of fit you are looking for?
November 10, 2025 at 5:27 PM
The best fit comes from having the shoulders to fit correctly and to sit in right place. So chooce a size to fit the shoulders best and increase where needed (for bust/tummy/hips).

They aren't selling for private customers, but have several sellers around France, so maybe there are some options here?

If you read the Shetland News article, "to cut" or "cutting" are the words used in Shetland for steeking, which is not a word traditionally used in Shetland (per the article)

Are you aiming more for hand or machine sewing?

Knots are equally valid joining method as any other. Maybe not the best at the bottom of a sock, but elsewhere 🤷‍♀️
