By-election is the way to go.

If the city does appoint someone, that person must commit to not running in a future election because of the advantages that incumbents have.

“People who view doing the right thing as transactional are always wrong”.

Wow. This!

I would agree with the one time measure idea - a consolidated approach to defeat Doug Ford and bring in electoral change.

After that, do whatever.

We can't beat him divided.

I'm not a lawyer so can't speak to the Supreme Court idea.
February 28, 2025 at 7:18 PM
Exactly! I agree.

But you can’t change the system if you don’t win.

Doug Ford isn’t going to change it on his own volition.

Let’s create one non-Con party that can defeat him and that commits to changing the electoral system.
February 28, 2025 at 7:03 PM
Totally agree.

But we'll never get there unless the Non-Con parties suck it up and merge together for one election cycle to actually win and defeat Doug Ford.

Winners get to dictate policy.

Right now we're all losers.
February 28, 2025 at 5:13 PM
System isn't rigged

This is how it works. You divide non-Con votes across three different parties you hand the Cons a win

We chose to divide up the votes because the Libs and the NDP couldn't work together. Doug Ford will keep winning as long as there are so many non-Con parties to split the vote
February 28, 2025 at 4:16 PM
This is all just so frustrating.

Four more years of Doug Ford and his inept policies because the non-Cons can't put their differences aside and work together.

“Plenty of land for future growth” doesn’t mean we should use it though.

Sprawl is ridiculously expensive to build out and service.

We should be growing at 100% intensification and leave the farm land alone.

I’m listening…

Is the driver being charged for this?

My hope is the city will pursue legal action to recoup all costs associated with this.

Why are we all paying for this?
January 30, 2025 at 3:03 PM
I think we need some sort of funding recovery system.

If you cause an accident, you (or your insurance company) should be liable to pay for the city’s costs in dealing with the collision.

We is this a cost we all share?
January 30, 2025 at 2:47 PM
I fully support this project.

My only wish is that we made it taller, added more units, and scrapped the two private vehicle parking spots for bike parking.

The thing is so close to transit too!
January 25, 2025 at 1:08 PM
This is good!
January 24, 2025 at 2:11 PM
With respect, this is a silly question.

If a new restaurant opened up in the neighbourhood would you also ask this?

What if someone wanted to open a new grocery store, or sandwich shop?

The more of something we supply, the cheaper they become. More housing will eventually bring lower rents.

Can confirm.

Will 💯 percent not even look at a Tesla vehicle now, even if it is the best.

Why not allow everyone to do it and create a mechanism for those that opt in to have their soil tested.

Give out free test kits or charge a nominal fee. Or allow people to use elevated garden beds.

Surely there are ways to manage this risk.

I get that the city needs to save money so Mark can bail out his OSEG buddies, but PowerBI as a platform for dashboards is, in my opinion, hot garbage from a user perspective.

Here’s hot it renders on mobile. It’s also not a11y complaint.

Ah shoot - I think you are right - charities are different from non-profit organizations. I might have screwed up here.

My first deleted Bluesky post.

Police forces that are entrusted to uphold the law must not be perceived as picking political winners (and losers).

My goodness this is bad.

How are there not rules against this type of behaviour? In the public service we have a Duty of Loyalty, does something equivalent not exist here?
December 18, 2024 at 1:31 PM
This comment (plus the original rendering) needs to win the internet.
December 14, 2024 at 7:45 PM
Oh no! Don’t do it.

Is it too late to try to get you out of this order?
December 14, 2024 at 7:43 PM
Good luck!

The City of Ottawa alone spends about $100 million a year and still has a 14 year waitlist for affordable housing.

What in the shit is $75.5 million going to do spread across a whole Province?
December 12, 2024 at 6:30 PM
* 8k per unit (not per duplex)
December 12, 2024 at 6:28 PM
Ottawa is completely broken.

This mansion pays less property tax than a modern duplex in downtown Ottawa (8k per duplex = 16k / year).

We desperately need mansions to pay their fair share in property taxes.
