It's always a good day when you come home to find a new book, but this one is something special!

Looking forward to getting stuck into this by the great Colmán Etchingham, who has contributed so much to our understanding of early medieval Ireland. It looks like a fitting testament to his work.

A pity the best thoughts are always either when driving or on a big long walk with the dog! Going to have to get a dictaphone like Alan Partridge.

Is this officially the final day of the Miggeldy Era?

He's left surprisingly big shoes to fill.

Just voted in my first presidential election!

I highly recommend the experience of voting for your head of state to all my erstwhile former countryfolk

I met Pumpkin on the tour of the Hellfire Club today, what an absolute dote! (with such a seasonally appropriate name)

I do *try* to avoid arguing on the internet, but I dont think I've ever seen something like this breathtaking level of irony from yer man chipping into this thread.

At least birdwatch Ireland should be happy that so many of us knew the Latin name for a buzzard 🦅

This is a dreadful photo (it was a distance away) but had a lovely one watching us at Clonmacnoise yesterday. Gorgeous birds!

Though I once had a nest just outside my old office window. The absolute racket the chicks make! 😅

Small things like grids, utility and manhole covers can make a real difference to the feel and character of a place.

Just look at the difference between the iron ones and the shitty boring plastic, cheapest value tender version here in Clonmel.

Also a really nice thing is to save some of the syrupy tea mixture after you take the fruit out, so you can gently drizzle it over the brack 10 mins before it's finished.

Makes it nice and glossy.

Oh my god, they are actually calling it THE BRIT CARD!!!!

So weird how it's simultaneously not surprising, while also being totally shocking, how little they think of Northern Ireland.

New episode of Amplify Archaeology Podcast!

I was joined by Dr Fiona Beglane of ATU Sligo, to chat about the recent exciting dig at the Green Fort, Sligo.

Fiona discussed the project, and how the artefacts give a little glimpse into the lived experience of the soldiers once stationed there.

I often think of Fourknocks in particular in this way. A Neolithic passage tomb on a prominent ridge, that became a place of burial again in the Bronze Age when burials of children were inserted into the mound.
