Searching for hills in Singapore.
As an English person my strongest association with “Heritage” in a phrase describing origin would be “Heritage vegetables” (about purple carrots in Sainsbury).

I moved out of the UK for work, and I’m getting married next year to a Korean lady whom I met out here. I’m trying to lay out how hostile the UK would be to us if we were to try to return at some point in the future- I don’t think she believes me.

I’ve voted Labour my entire life and the current “out Farage Farage” thing disgusts me. I’d vote for Hypnotits if I still lived in the UK

The most common problem for cyclists is a motorist pulling alongside then turning into or across the cyclist- by the time you apply the brakes or there’s a loud noise it’s too late to record the sequence of events. I sincerely wish this wasn’t an issue that needs a way of preserving the evidence.

True- you would need to turn them on but if I recall correctly you can do that with a verbal instruction, which might be enough to capture the chain of events.

I think these glasses may, genuinely, be the only chance a lot of runners and cyclists have of any justice following their death at the hands of a motorist. I agree that they’re not without issues, but- they have a unique (if unfortunate) use case.

True. There’s a reason why every app on my phone requires face-ID to open it, despite the phone being unlocked

And that bicycle theft (for example) has been effectively decriminalised. The police at least turned up when someone nicked your bike in the 90’s.

It’s generally the car in the same lane that is going to be the one that hits you- however, the most common cause of accidents is the left hook, where the driver comes parallel to the rider and then turns across them which means you need to have recorded them previously.

I’d suggest that both pedestrians and commuters have rights, the issue is that the state is doing nothing with regards to them, hence commuters with helmet cams they don’t want.
September 18, 2025 at 9:37 AM
Commuting on a bike in London a helmet camera is the only way to get police action on dangerous driving, which I wish were not the case- but we don’t live in that world

Believing in it very, very strongly?

I think a lot of people who would have described themselves as good Tories in years gone have been on a radicalisation journey. I think they were always open to the racist element but would cover it with “it’s just a joke mate”, now it’s become socially acceptable so it drops the facade.

I have a tendency to get up from the desk and walk around when on Zoom, apparently it makes people sea sick if I don’t turn the camera off (laptop balanced on one hand usually)

They’re the only place I have been able to buy AF beer on draught, but - I’m no longer going to, again because of a problem that doesn’t exist.

Yes, slowly dawning on me that I’m going to have to get really good at (say) fishing, and learn to enjoy al fresco sleeping opportunities

I live in Singapore, the opinion here and in the surrounding countries is that 1940’s Imperial Japan a) deserved the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombs and that b) more would have been fine, good even.

However, as someone who now lives abroad I cannot download *any* of the parking apps when I’m in the UK as they are geo-fenced and my phone is allowed to access the Singapore App Store, so this means I can’t park anywhere when I come back.

One step ahead.

They may have been hoist by their own petard - I've been trying to use a Fuji X100V as a camera for meetings and it overheats unless I remember to turn a fan on to cool it. Then I have to wait for it to cool down. So, not really a technical failure it is true, but still the camera, it no work.

Yeah, that was a specific service, the name of which escapes me.
