I saw this thoughtful and careful comment on Essence's IG in response to their post about mishandling of the Superlounge this year. It outlines a key current issue: Essence Fest was a very specific and unique experience, and they basically tried to fix something that wasn't broken
Comment offers feedback from the POV of a 20 year Essence fest attendee, calling out the changes that have taken place since 2020 as the source of problems with the festival, starting with (in this screen cap) disorganization with the lineups, when separate nights used to be aligned with audience and genre. Comment goes on to highlight the themed nights of past years and how that allowed attendees to plan accordingly. They also address mobility and accessibility issues, and Target as a major sponsor this year in light of the boycott. Lastly the commenter addresses rising ticket prices, and emphasizes again that they offer this feedback in love and respect
