(utterly irrelevant but I grew up near Joshua Tree NP and went up several times a year from when I was about 10 to 18. It's one of my favorite places so I always enjoy seeing your posts on Joshua trees. Sadly, I haven't been back in over 20 years)

Sticking with the classics this weekend… but, also, maybe they forgot?

Last but not least, @sekharma.bsky.social presented a poster on the influence of taxonomic bias on behavioral meta-analyses. Sekhar won the Founders Memorial Poster Award!

Huge congratulations to Sekhar!!!

My NDSU colleague Erin Gillam @batsrkul.bsky.social and I presented a poster on "How well we explain behavior", looking at R^2 in behavioral research. This has been a fun but exhausting project, hopefully we're able to finish one day!

Zach estimated behavioral variation in inbred & outbred crickets, testing whether our understanding of behavioral individuality/CID/personality needs revisiting given findings in parthenogenic species.
Paper hopefully coming soon!
Zach is also joining the lab as a PhD student this fall!

Wonderful #ABS2025 meeting! Great to see really exciting science & catch up with great people. Four members of the lab came to the meeting this year: one new attendee (Zach Sweep), two-time attendee (Katy Takumi), many-time attendee (MA Sekhar), and me.

We all had a great time, thank you ABS!

I have a PhD position open to start fall semester 2025!

The position will include investigations of the structure of both phenotypic (behavioral) plasticity and genetic variation in behavior as well as lots of opportunity to develop your own project.

I don’t celebrate most holidays. Today is usually an exception. After last week, today has less cause for celebration than most years. Nonetheless, happy Sherman Day.

Orange guy isn’t with us anymore but tabby is (LucyFur). Current cohabitation is much more tense but maybe improving.

Importantly, the structure of published Gs *did not* match the structure of G for populations evolving on Gaussian landscapes. Nor did published Gs match those seen under drift. Instead, published Gs were consistent with populations that had evolved on holey landscapes (HLs). (2/10)

I was asked for a *recent* headshot. Sorry, that goes against the rules.
