I struggle with this one on a few levels - first of all, what is there to gain from filing a false report about losing a work phone. Should the police have even pursued that? Second are we at a point where people are now forced to resign from jobs based on openly disclosing a previous conviction?

@mrjamesob.bsky.social if it was covered with more depth by the UK media then people would actually understand that farmers are desperately scrabbling right now to launch other biz to keep farming and I think their opinion of these taxes would be different.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social last week I was at UK's major farm biz innovation event - one farmer said something to me that struck a chord 'people don't realize their food has always been subsidized by grants and farmers running second biz to keep the farm afloat'. Everyone I spoke to ran 3 biz or more

@mrjamesob.bsky.social I think there's a massive gulf in public understanding of farming, how farms make money (or don't) and the pressures they are under. I've not seen a single outlet properly address that and it leads to surface level coverage of the issue.

People need to understand this and it's insane the government doesn't seem to. I was at a major farm business innovation conference last week and everyone I spoke to was in the same boat, I think most people don't understand the economics of it.
