Architect and Neighborhood Maker,

Cities should have the form and density to make them more convenient to walk in than to drive. You can’t address climate change without acting on that.
Nevertheless Israel offered a treaty that would have created joint custody of Jerusalem, but it was rejected by Arafat

Oh right, the Arab countries didn’t like the imposition of a treaty that created the land of Jordan (Palestine) and a very small area for Israel so they invaded and LOST. Then they tried again in 1956, 1967 and 1973.

On October 7, it was Hamas who invaded Israel. What did they think would happen, as a result and as they fired over 20,000 missiles into the country?

Also, tell me when Israel invaded Yemen? I do know that the Houthis took over part of Yemen and use it for piracy and firing missiles. Can you name a country anywhere in the world that would not respond to a country lobbing missiles at them? Go ahead, I’ll wait.

Tell me again when Israel invaded Egypt and Jerusalem? I do know that in 1967. Egypt, Jordan and Syria invaded Israel and lost so Israel reclaimed Jordan and took the Sinai, which they in turn gave back.

Having said all this, I am skeptical as to his commitment to this. Solving the housing crisis, is difficult task, probably as difficult as ending the war in Ukraine. But in the off chance he's all in, I think we owe it to his folks to offer up our ideas.

7) Liberalizing NEPA requirements where housing is involved (this would be most applicable to any sort of public housing construction)

6) Of course, interest rates are important, but short of the president jaw-boning the Federal Reserve Bank, which he's already doing, he doesn't have a lot of options, beyond somehow bringing down the national debt, but that's not happening soon.

5) Various funding incentives to states and localities to liberalize entitlements. Again, what those incentives would be is a big unknown, but since the Feds are involved with local land use, that's the best I can think of.

4) Pressure from agencies like NIST and other testing organizations on IBC officials to liberalize building codes (which are administered at the local level) could be effective, particularly in the area of "single-stair reform"

3) Various funding incentives (to be named later) to
school districts, colleges and state & local governments that make land available for faculty and workforce housing:
Local governments are among the largest landowners in the country. Some of that land could provide space for housing

2) Removing tariffs on building materials including steel and lumber as well as appliances and equipment. Alas doing so would be at odds with other recent policy decisions, but I'm just spit balling here. The point of this one is that tariffs are contrary to bringing down the cost of housing.

1) Donation of federal land. While some federal properties are in out of the way places, there are likely military facilities in locations proximate to metro areas that are can be converted. There are also VA facilities and other federal institutions that may have underutilized land.

Short of direct and indirect subsidies, which in this political climate don't seem likely (beyond the traditional LIHTCs, which are also facing hostilities) here are my thoughts. Those of you with additional ideas, I'd love to see them in your comments. #LIHTC

4/ I’m fairly certain that this was the president’s plan i.e., create excuses to federalize the national guard. And while it is LA today, i would not be surprised to see NY, Chi, Seattle, etc in the future. We’re living through history.

3/ However the president’s actions escalated things, (his plan) causing damage and necessitating deployment of LA riot police (never a good thing), which further escalated things. With the military involved now, all it takes is someone with the wrong temperament on either side, and things get ugly.

2/ The president decided, in his infinite wackiness, with no request from either the Governer or LA City Authoritues, to federalize and deploy the National Guard to LA, mostly focused on Federal property in Downtown. By itself, this was a newsworthy event, but not a lede.

I have no problem requiring all-electric in new construction, but it seems a bit of an unfair burden on homeowners whose houses survived unless they are compensated for the cost of converting to all electric.
