Out enjoying a nice dinner with my youngest.. US Open was on a few of the TV’s. No joy in that sport. The athletes weren’t happy. The fans were mostly expressionless. WTF.. go do something else people. Life is far too short to anguish in your leisure time.

New ride from Canada! Glad I got it now. In a few days it might cost 35% more. It’s going to be tough on these small businesses.

This has been the summer of the half frame camera. There are new photos posted literally every time I open this app. I can’t help but think the Pentax 17 gets most of the credit.

Darkroom talk tonight got me thinking. I’ve had a couple different ideas for building a home darkroom to have post “retirement.” But now I’m rethinking things. Maybe the way to go is super simple. Wildcat Hill style. Forget all the dedicated stuff. Light bulb, printing frame and a sink.

Stealth cat is:
A: Guarding a Hasselblad Flexbody
B: Ensuring a Hasselblad Flexbody is covered in cat hair
C: Pretending to be a chameleon
D: All the above

Just love it when a car needs a $1500 repair when it’s not even 2000 miles out of warranty 🙄

A complete brain fart of lens design. Sony’s fancy G Master 70-200 has a lens mount alignment marker that is the same color as the lens. Impossible to see in the field. I’ve resorted to a low tech fix. Otherwise, it has proven to be a really nice lens.

editing is selecting images to show from a bigger take of “unedited” images. editing is not post production or manipulation of images. to say this image is unedited isn’t correct. that would imply a random image was selected from a take of photos and we all know that isn’t likely.

I have a low level interest in the Met Gala because I’m hoping to see something new, interesting and noteworthy. Didn’t happen this year. Mega designers in a mega creative slump.

Here's my contribution to #FolderWeek
Used my 4x5 Speed Graphic. Hand held, rangefinder focused and composed with the viewfinder. Such a quick and easy way to work. Used #FP4Party #believeinfilm

Super late, but a quick March newsletter; my attending the Dallas Art Book Fair last month, sample spreads from my latest zine some nights i can’t sleep, and the hopeful start of a new publication:

Events and the fatigue afterwards
Ummm…let’s just pretend I sent this in March… The Dallas Art Book Fair was a success. I met a lot of interesting people and had some good conversations. I...

I have met and photographed 3 Supreme Court Justices. I can’t imagine that any of them would be proud of today’s rulings. Speculation from a photographer, not a student of constitutional law.

Today’s observation: was at a large celebratory luncheon, at least two young women were using 35mm p/s cameras instead of their phones to capture the moment.

At the suggestion of @jessicaeaton.bsky.social, testing out a new filter pack for my additive separation photography (aka #trichrome).
Very busy week coming up, so may be a while before I see the results.

Dear UPS. Your website and app are designed by idiots.

4x5 environmental portraiture has become a very expensive endeavor. This is getting harder and harder to justify.

Friday evening rambling: photographing with film, professionally and as a leisure activity, is the only economically viable medium any American photographer could possibly consider. We don’t make cameras, we don’t make sensors, we DO make film. Should probably stop rambling.

The new Nikon 35 f1.2… lens bloat is out of control. It’s the photo world equivalent of those lifted Ford F250’s you see at the shopping mall. Go get ‘em boys!
