I also happen to be reading guitarist Joe Trohman's memoir 'None of this Rocks'

This time around, the years between albums can be heard in advancing their sound.

The album also saw them returning to label Fueled by Ramen and producer Neal Avron, both parties they worked with "in their prime"

I think this could be seen as a transitional album for them.
