A screenshot of my answer to a class discussion on Enterprise Networking: Do you think Automation and Artificial Intelligence is a good thing for the job market? In regard to the enterprise networking job market, I would say that automation and artificial intelligence is a good thing. AI and automation in our post internet age is a necessary tool that should be used to reach new operational heights and achieve greater business goals in terms of improving efficiency, better security, easier troubleshooting and network analyzation. However, ethically, reliance on AI has a strong potential for degrading the general skillset that is required to be a network engineer or network security analyst. Right now, we are at an interesting point in technological history because at a development stage, we are just now at the point where AI and automation used at mass markets is widely available for almost anyone to use. Though we haven’t even begun to enact domestic policy as to how the governance of AI in business will affect humans who are looking to work in tech. With companies like Meta openly preferring to use AI instead of entry level developers in the near future, all tech fields including networking and cybersecurity will have to grapple with the need to keep up with new enterprise standards (the use of AI) and the need to maintain a human-first policy that prioritizes the livelihoods of people instead of a relentless appeal to machine led profits. The use and requirement of knowing how to use automation and AI in the job market will create a more advanced skillset but comes at a tremendous cost to the future of work and the accessibility to an open job market.
