We have to be clear that two things are both true at the same time: 1) The Trump Regime engages in politically motivated prosecutions fabricating evidence of criminal wrongdoing; and 2) Any child rapist should be prosecuted and spend the rest of their life confined to a small cell. Larry Summers shouldn't be a senior fellow at CAP, he shouldn't be leading any public work for the Democratic Party or aligned organizations. If he raped children, he should spend the rest of his life in jail. If Bill Clinton raped children, he should spend the rest of his life in jail. Trump is going to try to turn this into Team Republican versus Team Democrat. We must insist that while there are two teams, they are: Team People Who Believe Child Rape Is Evil, and Team Everyone Else. I don't know what's going to happen. Epstein's child rape operation is so monstrous that it may be a line some meaningful number of Republicans are unwilling to cross. Bringing fake child rape charges may be a line that those left at the Department of Justice are willing to sacrifice their public careers over. I just don't know. But I do know this: we must loudly, publicly, relentlessly condemn child rape, no matter the political affiliation of those who commit it. And we must not excuse those who palled around with someone they knew to be a child rapist, no matter how wealthy or powerful they may be.
