Balatro being rated PEGI 18 because it “teaches skills and knowledge used in poker” is ridiculous. Balatro is really a math lesson in probability theory and multiplicative growth disguised as a game. World would be less dumb if more kids played Balatro. @playbalatro.com

Visiting fam this week and driving their much newer cars. Pretty sure these fancy safety features are making me a worse (or at least a lazier) driver. I discovered I can check my blind spot without turning my head by switching on the indicator and waiting for the warning chime.

I thought that surely the Econ folks must have devised a way to fix peer review with some amazing market based solution. Then, I realised the digital platforms for doing reviews in CS are no better than any other fields’
Interesting critique of the problems with peer review. Unfortunately it fails to offer a proposal for what might be better. I'm reminded of the old adage “democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.” Likewise for peer review. www.experimental-history.com/p/the-rise-a...

The consequences of fixing this and the resulting breaking API change are even worse. Microsoft will probably lobby for the new 9th month to be called November2Ex to maintain backcompat.

Slightly annoyed at myself for forgetting to turn off data roaming *before* taking phone off airplane mode and getting hit with the daily travel data fee on main SIM despite having an eSIM ready to go. Airplane mode to off on landing is definitely System 1 for me.
