Neighbours Against Wood Smoke
@nbrsvswoodsmoke.bsky.social
Campaigning for legal protections for neighbours of wood burners.

Neighbours face inhumane levels of toxic pollution from "Ecodesign" stoves.
Not possible to be considerate when you burn wood in built up areas. Please don't believe the stove industry's misleading information- it harms neighbours. "Modern" stoves burning "Ready to Burn" wood pollutes differently, not better, hence the ASA ruling.

Definitely need to regulate ALL solid fuel burning, including bonfires, firepits, BBQs, etc. as well as Drax. However from a public heath perspective Drax is much less problematic as its away from population centres and has a lot of filtering (as do crematoria)

Canal boats burning wood is a recent fad too. Until a few years ago they used calor gas, as they do in caravans. Many have solar panels so they must believe they are being "green." Fossil fuels have been so demonised people forget why they were used in the first place! (wood is filthy & inefficient)

Traffic emissions are problematic because of numbers of users, wood burning has high individual emissions. Road vehicles also serve a useful purpose, society wouldn’t function without them, we just need to reduce user numbers. Wood burning has no benefit to society, just the selfish polluter! 2/2

At least there's an awareness about the problem and new regulations (Euro 7) are in place which all road vehicle manufacturers will have to comply with. No such regulations for wood burners. Its a different problem - emissions per vehicle are tiny in comparison to a wood burning appliance. 1/2

The most "modern" stoves are also the “dirtiest” for some emissions. Carcinogenic Benzo[a]pyrene, for example. “Ecodesign” stoves are now the largest UK emissions source and they are mostly concentrated in cities. Its scandalous these were ever permitted in SCAs.

They are meaningless now. “Ecodesign” stoves are extremely polluting and should never have been permitted in SCAs. PM2.5 is 450X >gas boilers, 64X > average car exhaust. Many of the emissions are even worse than open fires, such as carcinogenic Benzo[a]pyrene.

Exactly, its likely the first step will be for cities, but clean air networks are full of people who live in extremely rural locations yet are impacted by woodsmoke. Health and safety protections for neighbours would be the best solution as no heating choice should cause harm to others.

It's not just about Carbon. It's a public health issue and wood burning creates extremely dangerous levels of pollution in the immediate vicinity, putting lives at risk.
December 1, 2025 at 8:05 AM
Its not carbon neutral due to the knock on impacts of the air pollution it causes. Also have to consider all the other GHGs emitted by burning wood. Its not "just" about CO2 and the environment - public health needs to be the main focus.

She must have seen this video! Or @mumsforlungs.bsky.social wood burning campaigns. Doubt she's stopped using her wood burner though or she wouldn't be blocking/muting clean air campaigners. She could at least respond before blocking! Clearly she can't defend her actions 2/2

Wood burning hasn’t been widespread in the UK for centuries (apart from possibly very rural areas). Many “environmentalists” have been so brainwashed by the demonisation of fossil fuels they don’t stop to consider that our ancestors stopped burning wood because it is so filthy and inefficient! 1/2

And burning "dry" wood is different, not better in terms of pollution, please stop promoting this dangerous myth @greenparty.org.uk "Modern" stoves using "Ready to Burn" wood are now largest source of carcinogenic Benzo[a]pyrene in UK. @zackpolanski.bsky.social please take a stand on wood burning.

@greenparty.org.uk needs to acknowledge that their “little wood burner” causes more damage to public health & environment than any transport method. People who claim to care about AQ sticking their fingers in their ears by blocking/muting clean air campaigners who mention wood burning is terrible!
