The other biggest thing about me is my husband Jeremy and I used to run Longbush Free Range Pork and we have a lifelong love of all thing pig 🥰🥰🐷🐽🐖

Another thing about me is that myself and a friend run Feathers and Fur NZ which imports (into NZ) specialty diets for zoo animals and wildlife - happy to see the Wombaroo Kangaroo pellets get the seal of approval by these guys 🥰🥰🥰🥰

My current hobby is studying Manadarin Chinese and as my handwriting is TERRIBLE, writing characters is kind of penance I am sure 😫 - but I love it though - I just finished HSK3 and can pickup maybe 15% of words now when I watch my C-dramas 😍 #仙侠 #武侠

Hello everyone for the Secret Santa I need to post a little bit about myself - so currently just making the most of the holidays to relax a bit which is something I am not very good at TBH (I have some great inspiration around me though 🙄) #Wairarapa

More pictures from the temple showing the exquisite Buddhist art (albeit covered in coal dust) - it has been deliberate to leave the dust in situ as they currently don’t have a method to safely remove it without damaging the statues, so we were told it will stay put until such time as this happens.

Datong 大同 is a large industrial city in Shanxi 山西 province-it sits on a massive coal field (so no subway system!) & everything is covered in coal dust. We started at Shanhua Temple 善花寺. Our guide was Buddhist and began to teach us about Chinese Buddhism ☸️. The temple guardians and architecture!!!!

The city wall of Datong was our (tallest) first experience of several walled cities - it still wasn’t even as tall as it had been historically! Also the ‘turtle in a jar’ defensive layout was seriously impressive warfare strategy. The walls and the moat went on into the horizon - absolutely amazing.

From Beijing 北京 we headed westward by high speed train to Datong 大同. These ‘screens’ are a fascinating and beautiful part of the architecture and feng shui design. I feel like I learned so much! The story behind this particular Nine Dragon Screen 九龙壁 was amazing how it survived to this day.

I couldn’t help myself as even the doorways were magnificent! The private opera house and the longest covered walkway in the world (?) were pretty incredible too 😮

We only spent half a day at the Summer Palace but some more pics of the incredible things built there - absolutely on par with what western royalty surrounded themselves with

The Summer Palace 颐和园 Yiheyuan in Beijing was fascinating - incredible displays of artistry and in some respects excess. So many beautiful things but all for just a handful of people to enjoy. This was all for Empress Dowager Cixi at the end of the Qing dynasty. I will share several pics 😊

The Great Wall 长城 at Mutianyu 慕田峪 in the haze was like an ink painting. There was also a paraglider bopping about which made it even more surreal at times. Only had a couple of hours to explore which was a bit sad. Would most certainly want to visit again and do more exploring along the wall!

More Tian Tan 天坛 Temple of Heaven as it was just so impressive - between the interpretive materials and our tour guide the ceremonial aspect of this place was really evident - this place was completely dedicated to what would be today called “food security”

The Temple of Heaven or 天坛 was excellent - crowded of course and with again large numbers of people getting wedding photos done - but still some exhibits and interpretive sites. So much to absorb and so beautiful 🤩

The Forbidden City or 故宫博物院 was pretty incredible although a blur as we had to do it so quickly. It was like a wave of people - would absolutely want to do it again at a slower pace and see some of the extra places off the main axis. Absolutely incredible but really deserves a fitting museum IMO.

The Beijing Bell tower and Drum Towers were the first of many on the trip. The start also of me realising the cultural love of selfies and the wedding photo ‘thing’. These are both very much a big part of the domestic tourism in China and I can imagine a significant revenue source too.

Beijing was clean with minimal pollution and electric cars and bikes everywhere with better traffic flow than here in NZ - the hutong homes were so interesting and lovely communities - decidedly aging population but interesting lifestyle and area

The next thing I wanted to share was how amazing transportation in China is. Hong Kong-Beijing in 8 hours by bullet train. On time, comfortable and clean, amazing views, and just amazing machines. I have to laugh when people slag off China now - it’s laughable how far behind countries are falling.

I don’t have a lot of things to say on this platform and come mainly to read about what others are up to - so I have decided to share photos from my recent trip to China with my mom that weren’t Insta worthy lol. First up is a cha chaan teng (Cantonese) breakfast in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.
