This is a flying spaghetti monster (seriously), but you can call it Bathyphysa conifera. Apparently they are about as smart as a stupid dog (or cat), which places them neck and neck with some humans I know. It's Thursday people! I digress.

This is a black and rufous elephant shrew Rhynchocyon petersi. Very cute and they don't (can't) bite. So very okay for the nervous and thin skinned.

This is a hammer-headed fruit bat, Hypsignathus monstrosus, Well adapted to its lifestyle and not embarrassed to show it. I think that Harrison Allen, who named this species, was a person of his time in tagging this darling species as monstrous en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harriso...

One of my favorite insects: the velvet ant (which is actually a wasp). This one's latin name is Dasymutilla gloriosa (photo credit, Joseph S. Wilson).

This is a Hyalonema glass sponge. Carnivorous they tell me, but no one seems to know what exactly they eat. Pretty anyway.

I wonder if Musk is actually 12 identical duodecuplets. Birth date is almost right.

This is a Red-lipped bat fish, Ogcocephalus darwini. Found off of the Galapagos Islands. Pretty bat-shit crazy

Something disturbing 'bout this

Just in time to awe you with a Glasswinged butterfly, Greta oto. Never seen one in person, but a photo makes me want to.

This is a bobbit worm (Eunice aphroditois). Take it from an expert, you definitely do not want to sit on one of these unsuited.

This is a defensive posture of a puss moth caterpillar, Cerura vinula. Beautiful to us, but scary to dangerous predators
