Lovely picture.

The morphology of ferns is: the 'dots' are called sori (singular sorus). They contained smaller structures called sporangia (singular sporangium). In the sporangia are the microscopic spores.

It was a mystery until the late 1700s and mid 1800s as to how ferns reproduced.

I thought this was a leaf spot disease of some kind at first but it's actually spores produced by the fern to propagate! Which makes sense, it was much too regular looking for a disease. This is an epiphytic fern growing up a tree, taken a few Aprils ago. #naturalworld

One thing I love is that people know I like to take photos of mushrooms, so I often get people sending me photos of ones they see too! Even people I've not seen in years or on the other side of the world, it's always so nice! #fungifriends

Just saw someone bringing an exercise bike home on the back of an electric scooter. If only there was some way of combining the two

A perfect little fly agaric (I'm pretty sure but please correct me if I'm wrong!) that I found last year at Halloween up at the pumpkin patch!

Under construction!

Found this photo in an old album from when I went to Brazil back in 2017, some wasps starting to build a nest in a door frame. I love seeing all the little chambers!

Last light of the day coming through the trees!

This is a big fallen tree that's hung out over the river long enough for a thriving little patch of ferns to make a home on it! I love the way dead trees give support to so much life.

One small dead tree stump can support so much new life! This is all the same stump, I love finding a spot like this in the woods.

We're due a cold snap here so here's one from last time it snowed, a cool macro shot of ice on a twig! I love all the bubbles and swirls in there
