The vortices are always there, it's just that we need high relative humidity to be able to see them through condensation. A vortex will usually spawn at the location of a discontinuity of spanwise loading at the wing, which can be the wingtip, the flap edge, or both simultaneously! 😁

Made my first trip up to Barnes Air National Guard Base recently. Didn't manage to capture any F-15s in flight, but did stop to admire this beautiful memorial display aircraft positioned at the front gate.

Was hoping to see some condensation pulled out of the air by the planes in flight, but the humidity really wasn't high enough today. The clouds did make for an interesting backdrop though...

As anticipated, SAFER barriers will be used at the very high-speed Turn 17 of the Las Vegas Circuit. This cross section shows the welded steel tube construction of the outer barrier and energy-absorbing polystyrene foam behind. ⤵️
