Thank you! And I’m sorry you are facing layoffs. My rant is more of a general scream into the void and prediction for how things will play out for my field generally. (Our layoffs all happened last April when the 100+% China tariffs went live)

The unexamined assumptions baked into the ridiculous product rollout are legion. As for myself I’ll stick to the old ways and continue to burn that 15 minutes in silent protest.

The specifics of the photo are important. You can’t clip a low res or blurry photo. I mean you can clip it, but it will look like shit. Unless you are commenting on ugly art or doing culture jamming work it will distract from the message of your layout to include it.

For me it is a meditation. A moment of intense concentration when the rest of the project, and the world outside, simply fall away. I cherish these discrete tasks. It’s one of the few times I really know what I’m doing before I even start.

Every single time I have photoshop and Illustrator open together my new-ish computer runs out of RAM. Every single time time. Legacy software should not be doing that!

What a shame it’s come to this. In the past 25 years, roughly 250 soldiers from Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden have died serving alongside U.S. forces—mostly in Afghanistan. Canada lost 159, Germany 59, the Netherlands 25, and Sweden 5. Allies share the costs of U.S.-led wars.
