I will be attending the nationwide protest in Salem this Sat at noon.

One of the ways we resist authoritarianism is to Stand Out. Standing out can feel uncomfortable. It’s easy to stay home. If you’re feeling frustrated, scared, angry about what Trump is doing to America I invite you to join us.

Had the best time at Reed Zine Fest hosted by the Reed College Library. So many talented creators, storytellers, and artists. Leaving so inspired and with a boatload of zines and stickers 😤

If you've called, I'm proud of you.

If you did one thing to take care of your community today, no matter how small, I'm proud of you.

Today I'm also going to be testing the 5 Calls app, which I've heard is a free way to make it easier to call all your representatives in 5 minutes, and gives you a script if you need help articulating a message. I haven't tried it yet (and this isn't sponsored) but have heard good things.

Remember that half the country didn't vote for Trump. Over half the country didn't vote at all. Many of these folks are now seeing grocery prices skyrocket, seeing a billionaire getting access to their social security, seeing the chaos. If you were not engaged but are now, welcome. We need you.

We also saw representatives protesting in-person at the steps of the Treasury yesterday. And we’re seeing progressive reps taking action but getting blocked by the GOP.

Packed town hall for Marion County with US Senator Merkley and Rep Salinas

Dems are in the minority and need folks to put pressure on more GOP leaders (like Speaker Johnson) to decide all this chaos is harming working Americans.

Be loud. Call your reps ✊

Beautiful, snowy hike this morning ❄️🌲

No wind and big flakes meant the forest was completely quiet. Just the softness of the snow seemingly falling in slow motion. I sat under a hemlock tree and felt the stillness.

Sunny and productive work day in the garden. We did a bunch of weeding before topping our pathways with wood chips. Organized the plant stakes and passed Buddy’s thorough sniffing inspection of all the work. Daffodils and tulips are starting to peek out of the ground 🌷🌷🌷

Good morning 🌅

Remember to rest today.
Remember we are always building democracy.
You can see this point in time as a finite rock bottom, or the ground floor to build what it needs to be.

We can only do this together.
We need each other.
Our humanity connects us all.

Spent some time at Silver Falls State Park this morning.

Listened to waterfalls.
Touched grass (or moss/grass in this case)
Consulted the elders.
Soaked in the sunshine.

Winter Falls was also visible which was a seasonal treat. In the summer it slows to a trickle.

Much needed shinrin-yoku 🫶🌲

Just finished: Bliss Montage. Loved it– weird and haunting.

Just started: Mechanize My Hands To War. New sci-fi, published in Aug last year.

Spotted a variety of the “bird’s nest” fungi family in the Santiam State Forest today.

I always love these because they do indeed look like teeny tiny bird nests, but they’re fungi!

In times of crisis:

Weak leaders point the finger.
Great leaders lead.

Weak leaders put themselves first.
Great leaders put others first.

Weak leaders avoid tough challenges.
Great leaders roll up their sleeves and get to work.
