Female subordination. Sexist 'modesty' codes. Violence against women.

Our new report 'Mission and Misogyny' reveals that many registered charities are promoting these ideas - all under the cloak of 'advancing religion'.

We agree diverse experience enriches HoL. But reserving seats for clerics of one religion is the opposite of fostering diversity; it simply reinforces CofE privileges. No-one should be appointed just because they're a religious cleric.

The prosecution of Hamit Coskun is legally flawed and amounts to a dangerous reintroduction of blasphemy laws through the backdoor. KC @akuareindorfkc.bsky.social described the charges as "plainly defective". We've urged the CPS to drop them. Story in @thetimes.com

WATCH: Islamic charity sermon says men can hit wives who refuse sex.
If a woman has sex under threat of violence, that's rape.
Charity law must be reviewed urgently to stop charities promoting violence against women in the name of religion.

Charity Commission has given “advice and guidance” to a mosque whose sermon said men can hit wives who refuse to have sex.
Much tougher action is needed. Such ideas put women in danger and setting back women’s rights by decades. We're quoted in The Times: www.thetimes.com/uk/society/a...

Encouraging to see the Government acknowledge the “harm or trauma” caused by ritual #circumcision.

Surgery, including circumcision, is inherently dangerous. It should only be performed on children by a doctor and with medical necessity.

The Government has said it won't scrap the 50% cap on faith-based academies, after the policy faced huge opposition.

In a debate on the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme, the bishop of St Albans used the privilege of the bishops’ bench to lobby for even greater special access and treatment for the Church of England.

Unfair and undemocratic. Automatic seats for bishops should be abolished.

We've written to the Communities Minister Lord Khan urging the government to uphold free expression after calls in parliament this week to reintroduce blasphemy laws 👇
November 29, 2024 at 2:02 PM
It is deeply alarming that an MP is calling for the introduction of new blasphemy laws. Concerningly, the Prime Minister offers no defense of free expression.

MPs should uphold values which are foundational to our society - not seek to dismantle them.
