seeing the reaction by media types (honestly anyone over the age of 35 really), its clear that there is 0 understanding of what anyone age 25 or under has experienced growing up with the modern internet and its culture. my expectation is this will continue because politics is now the internet

i'm sure he was also a partaker in darker parts of the internet (watchpeopledie, etc.) but i think isolation and chronic onlineness probably fried his brain. the fact that he graduated HS and started/dropped out of college during peak COVID exacerbated whatever anti-socialness he already had.

i fully believe his discord friends (and irl friends) only ever saw the 'normal', quiet, smart guy side of him and he never let on to any more defining aspects of himself. i don't buy that hes apoitical, but he clearly didn't make that his personality.

he seems like a pretty par for the course young gen z as far as i can tell. i'm close in age and spent my life from ~12-13 online and in discords and would consider myself by all accounts fairly similar in the way i conduct myself online whether thats on socials or more personal places like discord.

the thing everyone is going to have to accept is that the post-trump period, whenever it comes, will not and cannot be a project of national unity, it must be a project of partisan project of renewal, in the same way that reconstruction and the new deal were partisan projects of renewal.
