Advocating to nationalize Canadian healthcare.

Let’s improve health working conditions & patient safety.
This petition e-6802 is on Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, training on it for health professionals and access to care in Canada.

I know someone who travelled out of country for this care.

Don’t forget to look at both Japan & S Korea, they rank at the top and offer more for less.
June 22, 2025 at 3:12 PM
Wouldn’t be unreasonable to follow S Koreas lead if Canadians want more hospital beds

The other financials on HIS spending is from provincial annual reports. Not all Prov’s report well & this is not easy to find.

I’ll highlight we have paid Infoway (Canadian non-profit) almost 3 billion over 2 decades to create interoperability.

It should take 1 year to do & cost less than $100m
January 16, 2025 at 3:21 PM
I made this table with the info posted by CIHI. Link in photos.

Wished CIHI reported on Health Information System (HIS) spending as a line item because it is so high.
This table excludes HIS & is per pictured definition.

Aside from billions spent on customized health systems by region and good executive positions, what is the measurable benefit for Canadians?

It’s not faster access to care, better informatics/ interoperability or silky smooth portability…

What are we buying?

A wait over one, two months for ‘non-urgent’ imaging is a failure of Premiers in Canada.

It’s a two week wait for an MRI in Japan, non-urgent. It’s also about a 4 week wait for non-urgent specialist referrals.

Canadians are being taken advantage of and way overpaying for 13 customized systems.
January 16, 2025 at 12:54 AM
I think you are misinterpreting the intent of the email campaign.

It’s not to mandate all of Canada to be nationalized HC, it is by invite - negotiation.

The paper referred to above is a good source.

Technology has transformed what’s possible. Paying for 13 custom systems is cost prohibiting.
January 12, 2025 at 9:02 PM
The email campaign calls for invite.
Would a premier stand in the way of citizens supporting it?

CHA, “good gov” clause?

If a new jurisdiction review is done it might just show hospitals are the only thing identified.

The benefits are measurable with the change.

It took S Korea about 10 years to amalgamate all the different types of insurance they had into a single national public insurance system.

They have never looked back and rank at the top for a reasonable cost overall / person.
Included dental and other care.

Non-profit delivery too

Telus, Loblaws and others are tying to muscle in. Pharmacies are trying to expand services.

All corporate money is lobbying.

Who is not organizing and lobbying nationally? Patients and tax payers.

If we want speed like in Japan we have to organize

BC is also mishandling their health budget and they are NDP.

BC has duplicate health regions that drive up the cost of admin for no benefit except to executives.

Pinned thread has more info on what we could advocate for. A citizens assembly is probably required.

We should be looking to S Korea for inspiration on system reform.

During their short time with Universal HC they have nationalize, ensured care is non-profit delivery and now rank at the top for a lower overall cost per person than Canada.

Canada is held back by Premiers demanding jurisdiction

We are loosing healthcare now across Canada with advocates in silos and paying excessively for multiple bureaucracies.

Billions on interoperability and you cannot get a basis document list w/ page counts of your chart electronically.

This is why we have no beds or MRIs.
December 19, 2024 at 3:01 PM
Yes, why does a single payer health system allow for profit delivery as the primary model outside urgent care?
Canadian health systems also need system accountability measures.

Citizens assembly?
December 14, 2024 at 6:32 AM
If the Minister of Health is open to collaborating nationally we have some ideas to save on healthcare admin in Canada.

S Korea and Japan are doing something much better than we are
December 11, 2024 at 1:55 AM
S Korea and Japan offer even better universal systems.

Japan is about 4 weeks for non-urgent specialist referrals and they have about the same number of Dr’s / 1000 people as Canada.
December 5, 2024 at 6:39 PM
I think there is a pretty good argument to be made the system admin cost and the additional money we pay for 13 systems (billions on HIS’s) would be better spent on care.

This table is from CIHI, per definition included.

I read up on Japan & S Korea after waiting a ~1 year for an MRI & a friend in Japan said it’s a 2 week wait there.😳

S Korea took about 10 years to amalgamate all health insurance.

S Korea also bans for profit care by law, it doesn’t stop Dr’s from earning & keeps PE at bay.

Neonatal deaths are even lower in Japan & S Korea, their system costs less than ours / person.

S Korea and Japan are 2 different styles of national systems.
S Korea is non-profit delivery by law, fully national run.

Non-profit keeps some of the greed out, while not limiting revenue for Doctors owning their clinics.

Japan is national design, fees, licensing & prefecture staffed.
November 16, 2024 at 6:21 PM
Have a gander at this email campaign if you would like to support nationalizing HC.
S Korea did this and they now rank above us for a lower cost.

Despite all provinces being directly involved with Infoway, they all still duplicate work costing Canadians in the billions annually.

Provinces and political ideology has not led to a better health system, it has only cost us money, burnout of patients & health workers.
