I don’t think it’s fair to expect those people to set aside their need for self-preservation in order to embrace the imperfection of politics. If we’re going to keep the tent open, then, it’s up to people like me to be crystal clear on our principles and hold ex-MAGA to them.

Others have a different experience, of course, but I’ve found the loudest and most strident opposition to the idea of welcoming ex-MAGA comes from trans and other queer folks who have had to fear for their lives and safety due to the bigotry and violence that is openly embraced in the MAGAverse.

We have a group called Zing down here in Longfellow that is putting together a bunch of resources and reaching out to local businesses. We even have monthly in-person meetings in addition to the always-active chat groups.
It‘s so good to get more connected to our neighborhood!
