Once again, executive overreach threatens Texas businesses by blocking HUB certification and fair competition in state contracting.

I join my colleagues in urging the reinstatement of HUB certification, or at minimum, a clear explanation of the legal authority for this suspension.

SB 1494 makes voting easier for Texans.

Here’s what it does:
✅ Aligns local elections with high-turnout dates
✅ Increases voter participation
✅ Reduces election costs
✅ Non-partisan, with elections in odd numbered years

A win for Texas voters. (3/3)
November 5, 2025 at 10:56 PM
Why it matters: Many Texas cities hold local elections in May, where turnout is often in the single digits.

That means fewer voices and higher election costs.

SB 1494 changes that. It lets cities move local elections to November — with a deadline to switch by December 31, 2026. (2/3)
November 5, 2025 at 10:56 PM
THREAD: Low-turnout local elections cost taxpayers more and engage fewer voters.

Working with Sen. Royce West and House authors Rep. Rafael Anchía and Rep. Toni Rose, we passed SB 1494 to fix that — allowing cities to align elections. (1/3)

Without SNAP, Texas stands to lose $614 million every month, and 3.5 million low-income Texans will go without assistance.

I joined my Senate Democratic colleagues in urging Gov. Abbott to use state resources to bridge the SNAP gap caused by the shutdown.

Housing affordability remains a major challenge across Texas.
