13 Nov 1916 – The Battle of the Ancre
OTD, British troops fought through mud, rain and bitter cold in the final major battle of the Somme.
It’s the same brutal landscape where characters trudge in The Orange Lilies, leaving echoes Morton Farrier will uncover a century later.

I'm getting fed up with these AI emails (at least 5 per day) so, before blocking and junking I'm setting them up with each other. 😆

Can’t wait to get started on this book. It was Vita Sackville-West’s only detective novel and has never been published inside the UK.

Just received these WW1 medals (eBay purchase) which belonged to my 4th cousin, Frederick Henry Dengate. For some reason he never wore them.

Absolutely delighted to be #1 in the Historical U.K. Biographies Chart at Amazon.com. How lovely...🤗

80 years from the end of the Second World War. 20 years since the book's first release in hardback. These people's stories are now being rediscovered by a new generation.

Just had a very interesting tour of the Metropolitan Police Museum, which included the toilet door from Rillington Place, the bath from the Brides in the Bath murder and various other artefacts which have helped shape police procedures over the years. Worth a visit if you’re in the area!

Just posted a letter to Harriet McDougall’s brother-in-law’s great-grandson! Clutching at straws, I do realise, but hoping he might have some photos of Harriet, her husband, John and the three sons. 🤞🏻

📣 New cover alert!

What do you think of the new cover for The Spyglass File (Morton #5)?
This is Abbotts Cliff House in Capel-Le-Ferne, where linguists from the WAAF eavesdropped in on shortwave German naval and air force radio.
