13 Nov 1916 – The Battle of the Ancre
OTD, British troops fought through mud, rain and bitter cold in the final major battle of the Somme.
It’s the same brutal landscape where characters trudge in The Orange Lilies, leaving echoes Morton Farrier will uncover a century later.

Can’t wait to get started on this book. It was Vita Sackville-West’s only detective novel and has never been published inside the UK.

Enjoyed listening to episode 8 of The Forgotten Dead, which talks about some of the barriers to using investigative genetic genealogy in the UK (totally navigable, in my opinion!) and mentions the pilot study currently being conducted by Scotland Yard.

Just had a very interesting tour of the Metropolitan Police Museum, which included the toilet door from Rillington Place, the bath from the Brides in the Bath murder and various other artefacts which have helped shape police procedures over the years. Worth a visit if you’re in the area!
