Like I know there's a tenderness and tragedy to it and it's an accident, but the monster does indeed kills that kid. The monster very famously kills the kid. It's literally one of the most iconic moments in the history of horror cinema when the monster kills that kid.

You only get away with the "I've seen it all, done it all, can't be fooled by any of this again" expert role with a character with limited screen time. The protagonist needs to be fooled sometimes, and those great moments in 5 make it harder to believably walk that back & let her be surprised again.
