I work mostly with indie authors. I love getting a new book and helping the author give it that final polish. I love fantasy, romance, science fiction, and speculative fiction. So if you need an editor, feel free to get in touch.

Which are you using and what is one thing you learned about perspective that you wished you knew when you started out?

A little something to brighten your day 🙂 I love all things books and dachshunds.

So I had a question today about action beats interrupting a sentence, and where the em dashes should go.
The em dashes set off the action beat, no commas.

For ex:
"This"--I gestured to the book in front of me--"is what your work should look like."

Tip #3
Get an editor. I passed more than half of the BookFunnel offerings because there were very obvious errors. It's not enjoyable to read an error-filled book.

If you're on a budget and thinking you can't afford an editor, get in touch and let's see if I can help.

Tip #2
Proofread your blurb. It's the second thing readers look at when you've captured their attention enough with your cover. A poorly written blurb will lose you readers just as fast as if your cover isn't good.

Tip #1
A genre related cover is your first hook. If you don't have a good cover, or your cover doesn't convey your genre, readers will either not bother looking twice, or they'll be dispointed when the cover doesn't match the genre.

So I just opened a BookFunnel page offering scifi and fantasy reads. There were a lot of good books with interest covers, but when I opened them to read the blurbs, there were the most basic errors. #Authors, your cover and blurb are two of the most important aspects. Read on for some tips.

Word of the Day

carpophagous
[ kahr-pof-uh-guhs ] adjective

feeding on fruit; fruit-eating

The adjective "carpophagous" describes animals (or people) that feed on fruit. It comes from two Greek words: karpos, "fruit, and phagein, "to eat."

It’s all about perspective. If we all thought the same, the world would be boring. You do you, boo! Don’t dull someone’s crayon to make yours brighter.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you don't need to justify your reading preferences and choices to anyone. Audiobooks count as reading. Also, you don't have to finish books you don't enjoy. Don't read to impress, read for yourself. Life's too short, love yourself, ok?
