3. i mostly made friends through work, but also expat groups (iffy) and language cafes (better). but i also find picking up new languages extremely grueling, so i couldn't just go to like... an exercise class or book group or in the local languages

also the person doing the announcements is putting maximum emphasis on almost every word, and she's not using the stock phrases you hear at all stations. it creates a very compelling effect that's completely inappropriate for the situation. hope she gets the acting gig though.

i can't tell which updates are about my train because every train is delayed, and the tannoy is both cutting out and echoing, so we're only getting half the announcements but we're getting them twice, overlapping with eachother
