Wayne Bates, NASUWT, said asbestos is a “ticking time bomb” in schools.

In 2022, MPs urged the Government to set a 40-year deadline to remove asbestos from all non-domestic buildings, dubbing its health risks “one of the great workplace tragedies of modern times”.

The commitment on class contact time was a recognition... that additional time away from the classroom was necessary to give teachers sufficient time and space to plan, prepare and assess pupils’ work.
