The cueing system at the BM is going to be on overload, but I wonder what the French will make of our small pile of bling?

The scale of the loans seems quite out of balance. The whole of the Sutton Hoo treasure could easily fit in the average living room and the Chessmen only take up the area of … a chess board. 70 metres of linen on the other hand requires a lot more space.

In return, the British Museum is lending some of its treasures, namely the Sutton Hoo Treasure and the Lewis Chessmen. It is unclear where these will be displayed, but the Louvre Museum seems likely.

Currently, the Tapestry is exhibited in the Musée de la Tapisserie in Bayeux and hasn’t left France since it was first brought there. However, in the summer/autumn of 2026, it will be travelling to London to be put on temporary display in the Sainsbury Exhibitions Gallery in the British Museum.

Great thanks James. I'm retired now, so more time for archaeology. Did you get to knap that flint nodule you found up on the downs? What was the outcome?

DSLR and macro lens is by far the quickest way, but I also have loads of negatives to digitise too. In fact I still shoot a lot on analogue film! So I use a dedicated slide scanner (PlusTek 8200i) which gives great results, including colour correction, but scans take 2mins on average per image...

Go on then. What do you use your slide library for? I'm slowly digitising all mine...
