My mom bought this issue for me and my brother at a used bookstore in Lafayette that also sold comics. It was a little banged up, so it cost 39 cents. 🙂

That store got ahead of the 90s boom and comics became much more of its focus, but then it tanked like everything else during the bust.

That’s not a great salary for an executive assistant in LA.

Say what now?

I haven’t seen the movie, and this is pretty funny.

But…maybe comic book artists should increase their page rates, band together, start a union or guild, or fight together in some other way so that this isn’t so far-fetched?

The first Batman comic I bought from a proper comics shop.

Hey, my kid loves X-Men, maybe I should get him one of these…

Oh, never mind.

X-Men was released 25 years ago today.

Time to wear your leather jacket over your denim jacket over your flannel and celebrate properly, bub.

Probably just about the perfect time to read this, I’d say.

I only have one piece of Superman original art, this page by the great Stuart Immonen and José Marzan Jr.

A nice nod. But the millions paid to his estate was much more meaningful.

Anyway, I saw that nearly half of Americans think humans and dinosaurs roamed Earth at the same time.

Sent this bookstore pic to my wife. She said: “Well?”

So…

The average chicken can recognize more than 100 other chickens.

Chickens remember the past and anticipate the future.

And they communicate specific information through at least 24 distinct calls.

But wait, there’s more!

I never play the lottery. And this is what happened after the machine took my money.

Store manager made it right. But still.

I’d have to take a page and add it to my light fixture, where it would join pages by Chabon, Kundera, Fitzgerald, Frank Miller, John Byrne, and more.

I’ve wanted Samnee on a Batman book for so long, but I didn’t start reading this series until I signed up for DC Unlimited Infinite.

Here’s an “ordinary” page of Samnee doing his thing. No Batman in sight, but it still feels like a Batman book.
