Has way too many books to read. Which is a great feeling.

And before the technology got to spraying in the 20th century book edges were coloured with marbling techniques, like this one I found in a used bookstore, publication ca. 1900

Here are 4 of mine, the last one is special because Alastair Reynolds also painted his own cover art for this edition. If you ever do one of his books, you should ask him if he wants to do the cover.

My copy came a bit early. Still have another non fiction book to complete before it but I'm excited @adapalmer.bsky.social

One of my top 3 of all time today:

Realm of the Elderlings by @robinhobb.bsky.social

This is 16 (quite big) books, but split into 5 sub series, three of the series have the same PoV character at their core. Some of the most impressive character writing in existence on display here. 🪐📚💙 ...

In addition we have very impressive worldbuilding on a global scale throughout the series concerning how dragons may shape societies or are shaped by them.

And of course, we have the eventful battles, looking at them from the air. Dragon vs Dragon, formations, everything.

The series has my all time favourite covers in the @subpress.bsky.social edition painted by Tom Kidd

The Books of Earthsea von Ursula K Le Guin, alle Earthsea Geschichten in einer großen, von Charles Vess wundervoll illustriertem, Omnibus Ausgabe.
December 18, 2024 at 10:02 PM
For the covers I prefer the UK ones, but the US ones have their own appeal too with the character portraits in front of a space background.

This complete omnibus edition of all Earthsea stories might be a bit unwieldy at around 3kg of weight for a train read, but I wasn't willing to stop reading it for two days, so I am taking it with me. Currently in Tehanu.

Today's bookpost #booksky (It's today somewhere, Strike 2)
Alastair Reynolds' "Pushing Ice" has really impressed me in the part I read today, before it was a very competent hard sci fi book, but how the different hints came together was a very scientifically pleasing moment. Incredible scale.

Today's Bookpost (Streak: 1)
One of my favourite new releases this year was Rober Jackson Bennett's "The Tainted Cup", an imaginative new world with an interesting duo of investigators. Sherlock Holmes when the world is under constant threat of being overrun by monstrous Leviathans from the sea

I'm currently reading Ursula Le Guin's Books of Earthsea in the big omnibus edition illustrated by Charles Vess, published by @sagapressbooks.bsky.social , stunning book and beautifully written words. Nowadays it's rare to have that style of storyteller voice and I'm really enjoying it.
