I just witnessed the same mistake again, with the same completely predictable result as always. You should not debate the rights of minorities. The mere participation in the “debate” will be used by bigots to legitimize their discriminatory ways. Human rights are not up for debate. Ever.

I’m a biomedical researcher who lost his wife to cancer. Finding cures is personal to me. What’s happening at the NIH is devastating. Here’s my editorial in my hometown newspaper.

DOGE ends America’s golden age of biomedical research
Biomedical research impacts all of us. I became curious about how drugs work after my mom was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis when I was a small boy. She received “gold shots” as treatment, which ...

Celebrating the holidays with our latest pre-print! In this work we evaluate allergen-loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles for allergy immunotherapy. We found that mesopore size as well as the administration route are both critical for their safety and efficacy.

1. I feel like this is such obvious advice that it gets taken for granted & consequently no one says this to young scientists but READ PAPERS, read all the papers. As you move up in your career you will have less & less time to do this. Read everything that appeals to you not just in your field

Very happy to see this work finally published! It’s about making dissolving microneedles with mesoporous silica nanoparticles of different pore sizes (and the result of my time as a visiting scholar at Ryan Donnelly’s lab at Queens University Belfast in 2022). www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

After a series of rejections (which include papers, awards and grants), I am glad to say I am feeling pretty good today. Managed to spend some time with students in the lab and organizing data for a new manuscript that I think will be quite cool.

Asking academics: with so many applications (grants, fellowships, awards, and so on) and so low success rates, making rejection the rule, how do you function on days when the result of some proposal is expected? I find it very hard to focus when the salaries of people in my team are on the line
