Since details of the smear campaign broke, initially in a big feature in The New York Times, then subsequently in dozens of articles on major news sites, not one outlet has used the word misogyny. www.usermag.co/p/blake-live...
Why won’t the media use the word misogyny?
Misogyny is at the core of these smear campaigns targeting women, yet news coverage consistently avoids naming it.

Google Photos just reminded me that six years ago today, I was in Rwanda (because I’m nosey). I wanted to see what the hype was all about. When I was leaving, one of my uncles said, “When you get back, write about it.” Maybe I will.

Ah, the perks of being a bumbling president: a statue in a country you don’t even like, a top honor from your real homeland, and all the luxuries that come with tanking the economy you’re supposed to lead. Now that's living the high life.

Taylor Lorenz with a rather important article on how liberals have fallen for election fraud conspiracies that are every bit as unhinged as conservatives ones from 2020:

Meta's Threads is 'overrun' with liberal election fraud conspiracies
Thousands of users have amplified baseless claims of hacked voting machines as Democrats become more comfortable embracing denialism

There is a long history of giving bogus interpretations of events in the US. Think of how gun violence is interpreted as a mental health crisis. The civil rights mov't was interpreted as communist uprising, not uprising against racial segregation. Now we're being told the election was about jobs.

The very real violence of fascists should vastly outweigh the hypothetical concerns about limiting Nazi speech.

I wrote about it, and about why the founders of Substack are so very wrong.

Modeling agencies are recruiting young people who have fled war-torn African countries and are living in extreme poverty.

They are flown to Europe to take part in fashion castings, but some return within days or weeks, often laden with debt
How modelling agencies recruit refugees from one of the world’s biggest camps
Wearing a long, gold knitted dress, Achol Malual Jau, strode confidently along the runway at this year’s London Fashion Week. The South Sudanese model, 23, who had for months practised walking in he...

i said goodbye to Shuhada’ Sadaqat / Sinéad O’Connor, and wrote about her impact and her convictions.

In America’s rush to simplify and commodify her, by throwing it back in their faces, O’Connor could stay chaotic; deeply funny; unabashedly serious; mercurial; uncompromising to her values.
Sinéad O’Connor Redefined Pop Stardom. It Came At a Cost
As she said herself in her memoirs: “Everyone wants a pop star, see? But I am a protest singer.”

For a lot of us, losing Twitter isn’t really about losing ties to the company itself. It’s losing 10+ years of real, asynchronous communities, professional development, the ability to get gigs and clients, the ability to promo/share your art on an extremely broad scale. The loss of that has impact.
