Same here; it's always yelled, always so jarring, and I want to flee... I get excited seeing other birds too, but please

I dislike this experience immensely

You are excellent, absolutely incredible at art!

It's okay, I understand. I was sometimes a real ignorant fool back in those days too. I'm so glad you're making art now!

These are awesome!! I really love the colors and painterly quality of your colored pencils! Did I know you by a different name back then? (It's okay if you prefer not to say!)

I love it when I find them, and every single one of them is my friend

Yeah! I gave some information and links for ways to find local sources in my writeup, I hope it can help!

I'm sure you have some awesome species to work with in Alberta! How exciting!!
October 30, 2025 at 5:59 PM
"Wildflower" mixes can be confusing for beginners, I'm so glad you cross-referenced the species! Some native plant nurseries that sell seed do offer truly native mixes depending on your region, it just takes a bit of research (as you found!). The extra effort really helps prevent frustration later!

I used to give talks and workshops about this but it's become more inaccessible to me; I wrote this online guide up based on my talks/workshops, and the actual questions, concerns, and interactions I had with folks at those events.
There are links to simplified documents if my site is hard to read.

I'm not an expert, but I am a passionate weirdo, and I'd love to help make this more accessible to people. I think it's that important. It can enrich your life & bring cool wildlife to your yard. If you look at the guide and find you still need help or have questions, you're welcome to contact me.

If you earnestly want to try but cannot afford seed, feel welcome to reach out and I can try sending you some free seed if you are from the Great Lakes (eastern Midwest) / Northeast / upper Southeast regions. If you contact me, please let me know your location and what your growing conditions are.

This guide is biased due to where I live (Great Lakes region of the USA), but I do link to many online resources and information that should help folks in most of NA.

Autumn and winter is a perfect time of year to get started from seed, if you want to try seeds!
