⚡️ Excited to take delivery of the new Mini Cooper SE electric for a six month long term test. It has not been officially launched yet, but the Mini South Africa website lists it for R879 500. #EV

Currently on test: the Dayun S5 Mini SUV, South Africa’s “cheapest EV” starting at R400 000 ($21 800) for the base model and R450 000 ($24 500) for the ‘VIP’. It has a 35kW motor, top speed of 100km/h and a range of around 330km from its 31.7kWh battery.

Visited BMW’s Rosslyn plant after a R4.2-billion upgrade to build the X3 plugin hybrid exclusively for global export. Drove the diesel, PHEV & petrol at the launch. Look out for my piece in Brainstorm. Fun fact: the Rosslyn plant in Pretoria was the first BMW production facility outside of Germany.

I’ve been using Digital Key Plus for the first time on my long term test Mini Cooper #EV via Apple Watch and iPhone. Haven’t touched the physical key in those 2 weeks. It’s that same freeing feeling when I ditched my wallet years ago.

Full charge on my long-term Mini Cooper SE test #EV. Switched to efficient mode and got an additional 7km after a full charge. Used Mall of Africa’s 200kW charger but the car’s max DC charging speed is 95kW, so takes longer than other larger EVs I’ve tested.
