Kinda reminds me of that bit in the movie Brazil where they have too much cosmetic and start falling apart...

Alt: A clip from Terry Guilliam movie Brazil where someone has clearly had too much cosmetic surgery.

No, not that one. A secret second one. To quote a movie: "Why have one when you can have two at twice the price."

NF is famed for his youthful pride that his initials matched the National Fronts, but here it appears they also match the words "Notable Failure" 🤔

Demonstrably that quote was not from Sun, but who/how/why? If the citation had been "- Unknown" would it have carried less power? Does the misattribution to Sun lend it false context of war? Or does the quote originate from someone/somewhere unfortunate and the misattribution amplifies that source?

This kind of thing very interesting thanks for engaging with the subject Peter. Consider the quote "True wisdom comes from knowing that we know nothing" attributed to Socrates by Plato who wrote it as second hand account... Would it have less meaning misattributed? Or more not attributed at all?
November 19, 2025 at 8:16 AM
Thanks Peter, I have no doubt its a misattributed quote - i'm just wondering how you know he never said it? All we know is he never wrote it, he could have said it ten times a day for twenty years...? Also were you aware the Art Of War authorship is contested as it could be from after Suns lifetime?
November 19, 2025 at 7:09 AM
Hi Peter, you've sparked my curiosity - how do you know he never said it?

Thats true... and all ball games... all games really... they're just variations on the same theme, aren't they...? So yeah anyone seeking any kind of entertainment at all are rivals, aren't they? Especially readers of The Viz... So, do I beat them all and win a pencil for this observation?

It has been two hours, how's it going?
November 18, 2025 at 7:21 AM
And there we go. How many times does it have to be said: You. Can't. Out. Extreme. Extremists. As far as you dare go to placate their position they'll always go another step because there is no too far for them - its just how to get there. Brexit cost 8% GDP, how much would leaving the ECHR cost?

Good advice, TV's Tomorrows World still owes me Flying Cars, Meal Pills and synthesizer music made out of vegetables. They should have called it "Maybe Tomorrows World?".

I predict removing the tax will spike demand which will clear stock faster than the supply chain can react resulting in higher prices to get stock destined for other countries, or worse empty shelves. And there is nothing to stop the tariffs being put back on again once there is a rarity bump, too.

Oooh, nice to see the concept, i'm more a 400i person myself but that's a lovely piece of art :-)

Thank you Opera, that is true, and to quote another phrase: "Two things can be true at the same time" 🙂 I would hope once they realise the con they themselves would have contempt for the way they were convinced to behave, too.

"Compassion for the conned, contempt for the conmen" - but what good compassion for the conned when they take up the tools of the conmen and enact their will like that? Flag hangers may be the conned, but they are also the complicit... does compassion come when they stop and put down the tools? 2/2

If anything this changes the perception of those intimidating lamp post flags, doesn't it? From their desired "Patriot" maybe "Nationalist" or even "Racist" to "Sucker", "Fool" and "Victim" - I can see two flags from my window and all I see now is a blazing advert that someone was suckered in. 1/2
