No, it is absolutely true. If any service member transmitted classified information over an unsecured device, they would be done. This isn't even up for debate. I'm sorry, I'm not sure what experience/info you're working with, but the military does not mess around with this infraction. At all.
Look it’s a big fuck up but this is not true. The private would maybe lose their clearance and face other administrative punishments depending on the nature of their negligence, but to be criminal requires a pretty high bar of proving intent.
If an Army private accidentally texted the details of a classified military operation to a reporter, let alone transmitted any classified information to anyone who was unauthorized over an unsecured device, they’d be charged and likely spend time in Leavenworth.

But it’s Hegseth, so probably not.
