Currently at KL2R in Two Rivers, Alaska. The funny thing is I am slightly red-green color blind. I usually don’t see the red. I only have a “sense” of it, like the shades and tones in a B&W photo. When I stepped out and looked south I actually SAW the red. I knew it was intense. 6:15 PM. Temp -5F.

Good morning from Two Rivers, Alaska. A new bird for my lifetime list! A black-billed magpie showed up this frosty morning. They are relatively uncommon in Interior Alaska, particularly as winter sets in. More frequent sightings have occurred in the past 10-15 years north of the Alaska Range. ❤️

My favorite birds, the pine grosbeak, have been visiting for several days. They are a type of finch with short conical beaks, which they use on seeds and nuts. The big male of the bunch (5 spotted) is really red. Here one snacks on lilac seed pods.
