This incredible composite image by multiple observatories (including Hubble, Chandra, Webb) shows NGC 346, a young open star cluster with the associated nebula.

It is located some 200,000 ly away in the nearby

Image of the week thread by your friends at the @usngo.bsky.social! #astronomy
This week's image is of the spiral galaxy NGC 7793! Despite being 12 light years away, Gemini's GMOS-S allowed us to see its dust lanes and numerous stars scattered throughout the galaxy's arms. Check out the 🧵 for more papers on galaxies! @noirlabastro.bsky.social

Don’t be distracted by distant stars and galaxies that look like candy! Draw your attention to the blue “scoop,” one of two galaxies in Arp 107. The blue orb to its left is interreacting with it, making up its other “half.” See how they connect: bit.ly/4jNa38R 🔭 🧪

Scientists have announced that a dim star in a constellation easily visible after dark from the Northern Hemisphere is finally on the verge of exploding. The binary star system, called T Corona Borealis (TCrB), could become visible to the naked eye next week. 🧪 🔭
A Star May Explode Next Week In Once-In-80-Years Event — What To Know
A star called T Corona Borealis may "go nova" next week, making the star briefly visible to the naked eye. It last happened in 1787, 1866 and 1946.

The Horsehead Nebula (also known as Barnard 33) is a small dark nebula in the constellation Orion. The nebula is located just to the south of Alnitak, the easternmost star of Orion’s Belt, and is part of the much larger Orion Molecular Cloud Complex.

Cold, wispy blue clouds are illuminated in the infrared by the glow of the young, outflowing protostar Ced 110 IRS 4 (orange, upper left). Light from numerous background stars, seen as orange dots, is used to detect ices in the cloud, which absorb the starlight passing through them.
