I blog about mystery fiction (and movies) at Mysteries Ahoy!
Movie you've watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Stars (either War or Trek), LOTR, or Marvel.

It's been three times this year alone!

Wonder how they came up with THAT number for a reprint from a couple of years ago.

An ambitious number given I can pick up a first edition for a third of that...

Apparently the blog hit another milestone earlier today. Thanks to everyone who reads and comments! :)

Tonight's viewing... The Jeremy Brett version of A Scandal in Bohemia. Such a strong opening to the series. Brett instantly embodies Holmes and is incredibly watchable. The HD transfers of the Brett show look gorgeous, too...

I was today years old when I learned Philip "Chief Inspector Japp" Jackson plays the menacing biker in A-Ha's Take on Me video...
A video I have seen hundreds of times without ever clocking it!

Tonight's viewing was Evil Under the Sun - a much more satisfying effort from Guy Hamilton than The Mirror Crack'd. Part of that is the source material is better, but also the starry cast is less distracting. Still plenty of showbiz bickering though for those who like that sort of thing!

One of the easiest posts I have written since starting the blog. You will have to wait until next Monday to find out if I changed my mind...

It's been a while since I tried a mystery video game, so I am playing the most recent Murder on the Orient Express adaptation. Early impressions - liking the puzzles but the combination of smartphones and train travel as the height of opulence feels odd...

I may have gone a little wild at the BL shop at the conference. In my defense, one of these was free, and there was a 3 for 2 deal...

Victory! Finally tackled this today, and we completed it in a single sitting. It really looks bright and colorful (the photo doesn't do it justice courtesy of overhead lighting!).

This morning's viewing... The film offers some neat dramatic moments, and Tony Curtis has superb presence as the crook who may or may not have gone straight. It's nothing revolutionary, but it is performed well and feels a perfect length.

Before I read this new Golden Girls cozy mystery, does anyone have any favorite episodes of the show that they can recommend?

I saw some positive reviews of this children's mystery when it first came out in the UK. It's now out in the US, and I couldn't resist giving it a go. Super charming so far, and the illustrations are lovely.

The Bad Sleep Well isn't one of the famous Kurosawa pictures, but it's got some terrific moments. I really hope it gets a Blu-ray release at some point!

Today, I finally found some time to read! My current book is Close Your Eyes and Count to 10, a mystery by Lisa Unger. First impressions at 100 pages in - I really like the crumbling, abandoned hotel setting. Looking forward to discovering what is going on!
