I've seen people go like "Kion ugh they just couldn't stop ripping off Kimba" when Kion comes from Kiongozi, an actual word and Kimba was a name picked in localization. Kimba's name is Leo, also an actual name and people use "Leo" as names all the time.

And don't get me started with the concept art. People go "WeLl there's a white lion there" AND SOMEHOW NOT CLICKING IN THEIR HEADS THAT IT COULD BE NALA! She's the closest to a white lion descendant than Simba is so HOW?!

There are way too many things in the original anime that makes it different from the movie and vice versa imo. You can't use an actor's assumption and scrapped concept art as evidence because in the former, that was an assumption, a mistake on his behalf and in the latter, they're not even canon

Leo's mom died was the ship sunk when Leo was just born not long prior, Sarabi was alive until TLK 2. Leo's 2 kids were featured in the manga and the second installment while Simba had one kid canonically at the time TLK2 came out.

I don't recall Simba ever having a cousin or sibling the movie (Not canonically in the film at least). The way their stories started out and how their fathers died were completely different. Panja got shot by a hunter as he was trying to save his wife while Mufasa got yeeted into a stampede.

Some might be like "But we got Leona" but she was an aunt in the 80s anime and the 60s anime was the version people often compared TLK to. Leona was Leo's relative which varies from one adaptation to another (Sibling, Cousin, Aunt).

Most of the similarities are cherry-picked and the "Aunt/Uncle" isn't even correct. (The lioness pretended to be an aunt in the 60s anime) Simba/Kimba name comparisons doesn't even make sense because Simba means lion and Kimba... was a localizing move. His real name is Leo.
