Book progress update! ✨

I’ve finally cleaned up the word cloud activity enough to release it. We tested the “colour the correct spelling” version today. The kids loved hunting for the right Monday.

I need your help.

What's your best tips for building curiosity and internal motivation in children?

🗓️ A Days of the Week activity book:
- Spelling + days of the order practice
- Multi-sensory activity worksheets
- dyslexia friendly explanations, along with the practice drills

This book will be tested on children 🥼 ;)

I’m designing my first dyslexia-friendly activity book. Here’s a sneak peek at the cover in progress and the tools I plan to use 🧵

3 ways to avoid ghosting your goals:

1. Have a plan - for us it is having the rule of homework before screen time
2. Have a backup to your plan - well, it's half term here, so there might have been some pre-homework screen time

I stopped sharing my daily worksheets.

Here’s why 👇

When kids are in the other room, what’s scarier:
👻 silence
😱 indiscernible shrieking (maybe they are happy, maybe they are about to murder each other...)
Curious where you stand - which one puts you more on edge?

If you’ve been stuck trying to get your kids to practice handwriting and it’s not working, you’re not alone.
I recommend 1) separating writing practice from spelling activities 2) using proper guide lines for their skill level.

I made a weekly workbook for my kids this week. Ask me anything 😄

So I let go and scaled back. The site now features tools and blog posts front and centre. With the change of attitude came a renewed excitement for more experimentation and sharing the process rather than just waiting to report the end result (or not reporting as who wants to write about failure).

A glimpse of the dragon cave… erm, my office. When I’m there I can disconnect from the household clutter, chores and just focus. It’s far from the kitchen too, so no snacking distractions 😂

What’s your workspace like?

2. Colouring - this is an obvious second, it is surprisingly easy to make kids happy by adding their favourite characters into an activity. But it can be more educational too - we've been doing colouring and mind maps in one for days of the week. mydragonlibrary.com/activities/b...

Sometimes there are days when I'm out of ideas or out of time to prep. For such times I have a few goto activities that mean we still have something to do.
1. This Is Not A... - a creative drawing activity that the kids love and you can prep in 30 seconds. Kudos to the lady on instagram (link below)

We’ve been stuck in post-summer chaos, in need of a reset to our routine. I’ve been less consistent and the kids responded by avoiding the work more than usual. A bit more flexibility and variety in the activities will hopefully improve my results.

New feature alert :) 'Today Is' section in the custom worksheets now comes in two flavours - simple (old) and a new detailed format with more guided structure. :)

Not sure I properly introduced myself before, so here goes:
I’m Joanna and I post about worksheets, homework, fun reading and writing activities, (not) getting my kids to do the activities... and trying out various dyslexia friendly resources.

Worksheet update! The kids do love to insist on following the instructions to the letter, so when on occasion I asked them to write something else (or god forbid more!) it was like talking to a lawyer. Now the text is editable, directly in the worksheet creator for each new sheet. :) #devlog

Day 67 of making custom #mdlWorksheets. Focused practice for b/d and th. :) And I finally got my son on the maze (everything was too easy before...) #dyslexiaSupport #homework

Day 64 of making custom #mdlWorksheets. Back to the good old 'this is not a' activity. I'm also tormenting the children with times tables.

Using up some test printouts for a quick challenge. Practising muktiplication with tokens and a few activities from a workbook. I like to lay these out for the kids thr night before so they can do them before school if they like or leave it for later. #homework #practiceAtHome
