Exploring mycorrhizal types and their impacts on forests 🍄🌳 Université de Sherbrooke ⚜️ Vancouvérois 🏔️ Aspiring Ent🌲

Howdy! I’m an MSc student at the Université de Sherbrooke in Québec, Canada. I am in the lab of Dr. Isabelle Laforest-Lapointe, where I’m exploring the impact of dominant forest mycorrhizal types on soil biogeochemical processes and microbial communities

Looking forward to talking fungi avec vous!

In our review of CMNs, water stood out as a resource that might be transferred between plants via fungal connections. This new study provides further support (and in DSEs!). Nice expt by Bea Bock et al 👍 Great to see new research.

Evidence for common fungal networks among plants formed by a Dark Septate Endophyte in Sorghum bicolor - Communications Biology
A lab experiment shows that Dark Septate Endophytes can form common fungal networks between plants, increasing biomass and enabling water movement, suggesting that non-mycorrhizal fungi may contribute...

Had such a great time presenting - and having an awesome time at the CSEE/SCEE this year! Come chat mycorrhizae (or other fungi/trees) with me!

Near Sherbrooke (QC) in early July? Then stop by the CSEE on the 7th of July for a presentation open to any and all - registered or not! You can't go through the summer in this region without being prepared for ticks - why not learn an extra thing or two?!

Got the chance to give my first presentation on my project exploring dominant mycorrhizal types and their impacts on the mycobiomes of the sugar maple and eastern hemlock! Still lots of work to go (results-wise) but it was an awesome experience - the CEF family is awesome!

We need to think more critically in how we use tree mycorrhizal status to predict forest ecosystem function. Important intra-guild variation among ectomycorrhizal trees leads to differences in soil biogeochemistry and organic matter properties.

Does anyone have example pictures of what root lesions on tree seedlings look like? I am trying to measure % root lesion using the magnified intersections method at 100x magnification (following Bennett 2017, Liang 2021, and Maron 2014) but do not know what these lesions look like
