hell, i was protesting divestment and taking over university buildings in 2019! as a college freshmen! police presence of course but no violence for days long sit ins and public distractions.
I went to college in the 90s (the 90s! when no one protested!). And students *still* took over admin buildings.
It is bewildering to see how universities are reacting to student protest. Students have always protested! This is not at all new! I’d love to know what college parents think about all this.

protesting genocide IS cool! it gives you an opportunity to find people who are like minded in their activism. protest can't happen with community and love... they need to built alongside. invite your friends! talk to new people! it can't happen alone!
not trying to minimize the very sincere moral objection many student protestors have to what is happening in Gaza, but also, to the extent there are young people there because they want to see what it's all about or have a roommate who went... so? this is how you develop political consciousness!
Today in condescending bullshit, Nate Silver thinks students are protesting genocide because it’s cool rather than because it’s moral.

protesting genocide IS cool! it gives you an opportunity to find people who are like minded in their activism. protest can't happen with community and love... they need to built alongside. invite your friends! talk to new people! it can't happen alone!

i'm tired of seeing articles (albeit by NYT, AP, and CNN so like unsurprising) about Only jewish and israeli students feeling unsafe. how many Palestinian and middle eastern students do you think have written to admins to share how they feel unsafe?

feeling the need to say this again re: the COLUMBIA act. We should be supporting and protecting our palestinian family. Congress is using Judaism, once again, as a cheap cover for state violence. this would destroy jewish and arab students alike. NOT IN OUR NAME.
