5. Diasporas can crucially support and facilitate the reception and integration of refugees. The Iranian diaspora is large (over 4 million worldwide) and economically strong.

4. IOs and INGOs are essential actors to support refugee-receiving countries during acute crises. UNHCR and most aid groups are currently in terrible shape due to financial aid cuts from the USA and others.

3. The first cause of further movement/displacement of refugees is the deterioration of their situation in their first country of refuge. Iran hosts 3,49 Million refugees, mostly Afghans (i.e. with nowhere to go) who primarily live in urban areas.

2. Geography & visa policy influence mobility patterns. Iranians can travel visa-free to 42 countries, among which Turkey, Iraq and Armenia with a shared border. These are refugee-hosting and sending countries.

We don't know what will happen with the Iran/Israel conflict, but should keep in mind the following aspects regarding the displacement side of the story:
1. Over half of forcibly displaced persons flee internally. 67% of refugees flee to neighbourhing countries

6/7 People lived in Germany on average 11,8 years prior to #naturalization, longer than in 2023. Interesting as the minimum was shortened to 5 years! The average hides a mixed picture: Syrians resided in Germany 7,4 years, while Turks over 23 years. Again: the effect of the 2024 reform is clear.
